   Proposal Description:
   -To assess opioid use patterns in the NACC cohort  -To investigate the patterns and predictors of longitudinal opioid utilization using group-based trajectory models                                                Background: Inadequate treatment of opioid is associated with serious adverse events especially for the elderly due to the high rate of comorbidities and polypharmacy. Although the capacity to express pain in dementia patients decreases, previous studies showed that the dementia patients have a higher tendency to use strong opioids than patients without dementia. To balance the benefit and the risk of using opioids to this population, it is important to understand the patterns and magnitude of opioid utilization of this population across the patients? severity of dementia. Nonetheless, the difference of the utilization of opioids in different dementia severities has not been fully investigated in previous studies.                                                  Objectives: To describe the patterns of opioid utilization in National Alzheimer?s Coordinating Center (NACC) data depending on the severity of the dementia.
